How to place an order with blind slots
With the development of the electronic industry, to achieve more functions, the density of traces in PCBs is getting higher and higher, the volume of electronic components is getting smaller and smaller, and the power is getting larger and larger. Therefore, heat dissipation becomes a problem that needs to be solved.
One of the solutions is using metal base materials, such as aluminum/copper-core. However, such base material cannot fulfill the requirements of multi-layer and high frequency.
Another available solution is applying blind slots. They are precisely machined to a certain depth within the FR4 board using a CNC machine. The recessed areas will then be filled with components or heat-dissipating copper blocks. After assembling the components, heat dissipation is achieved
In addition, there are also other functions of blind slots, such as using them to fix products on the board.
JLCPCB has successfully developed this type of blind slots, plated or non-plated (as shown below).
How to Indicate Blind slots in the Gerber file
If blind slots are needed, we recommend that you design these blind slots on a separate layer in your Gerber file, whose name is suggested as "top blind slots layer" or "bottom blind slots layer".
When you place the order, please select Blind Slots option and then add a remark emphasizing the information about the blind slots, especially the layer name of blind slots.
Please note that the blind slot information you have noted needs to be consistent with the design in the Gerber file.
If the selected options and the remark you note do not match your Gerber file, we will follow the options and remark.
Order Guidelines:
1. Select the blind slots option as "Yes" when placing your order.
2. Select the corresponding parameters according to the blind slots designed in the Gerber file, including metallization, side, and depth.
3. Upload an image of the location of the blind slots in the Gerber file, or the2D/3D picture of the blind slots.
4. Add a remark stating the layer name of the layer where the blind slots are located.
5. Currently, we can only make 3 blind slots at most. You need to provide the above info for each blind slot separately, by clicking the "+Add Slot" button.
